Thanks for the reply Shirley Your theory sounds feasable and yes I have observed seedling coming up in pots and areas free of Eucalyptus leaves. I guess what I was wondering was why established Eucalptus continue to grow in their own waste.

Alellophathy

In Peter's book he states plants won't grow in their own waste. I see no evidence that this is the case with Eucalypts. In fact they seem to thrive in their own waste.
Does anybody have any ides about this?

Forming an Alice Springs Association

Thanks for all the information about starting an Alice Springs Chapter. I think it would be easiest to initially commence with an association and ses how that pans out. What is, if any the requirements for starting an association?

Couch grass (Cynodon dactylon)

I have been gardening in Alice Springs for approx 27 years and the biggest problem that I have encountered is couch grass. On a small scale I have managed to crowd this weed out with prolific ammonts of mulch, usually thick layers of newspaper/cardboard followed by straw. I never pull out the couch ...
