Re: Silver Birch Trees

Shirley, Can I take cuttings of any ornamental tree e.g manchurian pear, crab apple etc? Do I need to dip the cutting into any compounds to help with root development? Does it take them long to get to the four feet stage? It seems like there is so much to do and so little time. I was even thinking t...

Re: Silver Birch Trees

Yes I agree with your ideas but this the far coner of 400 acres and up a really steep hill. I would like to plant something that I can just admire and let do their magic.!!! I can't see myself climbing up the hill to collect fruit and nuts etc. The appeal of the birch is that they are cheap around s...

We were thinking of planting a row of silver birches along each fenceline. 1. beacuse they look great and 2 because we hoped that it would ...

Can anybody suggest the best type of trees to surround a dam? I am intersted in getting shade on the dam to help to reduce the evaporation over summer. Our property is in South Western Victoria so we have good rainfall and water amounts. I was also keen to investigate keeping fish in the dam. Has an...

We have been rolling hay down the hills covered with bracken when we feed the stock. Where we have rolled down the hay now has very little bracken. The cows trample down the bracken and the left over hay improves the soil. This may help.

Sorry I should have been more specific. The bare patches are where I sprayed capeweed (before I had read Peters two books). I have slashed the remaining capeweed but wanted suggestions for good grass mixes (to sow on the bare patches of soil) so I can get a wide range of species.

What type of seed?

I have some bare patches of dirt in the paddock and was after advice on what type of seed I need to spread. The paddocks have beef grazing on them and I live in western vic. Is there any particular mix of seed or supplier that people can recommend?
Thanks
