One of the high points as an ex-employee of DNRE in Victoria was seeing a documentary made by a voluntary group after the Ash Wednesday fires around Airey's Inlet. They went out and documented what plant species had been destroyed in the fire and what came back over a period of some 10 years. They s...

Q. How do you eat an Elephant? A. One mouthful at a time! But maybe we should all just give up and go elsewhere. I have just finished reading 'Firestorm' about the Canberra bushfires. Talk about the (in)competence of the Australian Public Sector! No wonder we can't get anything done in this co...

In 'Beyond the Brink' Peter talks about alleopathy of plants, I guess this doesn't apply to grass otherwise we would never have pastures or lawns for that matter. Also he has talked about when the soil is repaired that grass will always outperform weeds. Does this mean I have no hope of keeping weed...

G'say All
I have just finished reading a book by Charles, Prince of Wales about his property at Highgrove. Very interesting and informative about the practices there. Some very good ideas.
Cheers

G'day All
Anyone who is a bit sceptical of the bit in Peter's books about the native australians not being the benign all knowing caretakers of the environment should read Michael Crichton's book; "State of Fear"

NSF Principles
Hi
Did we all see 'Landline' last Sunday? They had on a guy who was NSW Farmer of the year. It would seem to me he was embodying many of NSF's principles.
Cheers

A few people have asked about trees to plant, well here is my two bobs worth. Why don't you give Photinia a try? According to my trusty copy of Botanica they will grow in zones 7-10 which is basically any where south of a line Broome-Cairns. A have a few in my back yard probably Photinia robusta The...

G'day All Two good books I have read recently; 'The Deniers' and 'Unstoppable Climate Change' both of which I got through Amazon. They both seem to stop 'human induced CO2 driven' climate change dead in the water. Yet our Elected leaders, public service and so called experts seem to be hell bent on ...

I went to the department stand and ask some of the Catchment Management Officers about Peter and Natural Sequ...

A Sellout!
A great new book! Contacted my usual bookshop where I got Back from the Brink, reply was 'Sorry we've sold out' Got a copy locally and read it over the weekend. Just a thought for the next book, as a 'city slicker' I wouldn't mind seeing some photos of 'before and after' of some properties, or how a...

As every good gardener will tell you, if you pull out a 'weed' you need to replace it with something straight away, or else another 'weed' will just grow to take its place. I used to work at a government research station (as an administrator not a technician). This was in the time of Premier Jeff Ke...
