An interesting argument. Like Peter, it is saying that our 'native' forests shouldn't be a monoculture of eucalypts. Some other thought provoking viewpoints as well. What do our bush members think of this article? http://jennifermarohasy.com/blog/2009/07/defining-the-greens-part-16-and-bushfires/#co...

Swampy As an ex-employee of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Victoria, I can't speak for other states, but here in Victoria, you would be hard pressed to find any area of forest that has not been logged at least once during the term of white settlement. I also have anecdotal ev...

Our esteemed Prime Minister, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP, has just started a blog http://www.pm.gov.au/PM_Connect/PMs_Blog . Another chance for us to let our position be known. Don't let the 'Northcote Naturalists' determine government policy, the people who live and work in rural areas know what i...

What does Haydon Walker (son of Lennox and grandson of Inigo Jones) predict? Like Dr Ian Plimer, he believes that the sun plays a large role in our climate.

There was an article on the Melbourne TV recently about our sewage farms. The newest one at Carrum (SEPP) is selling the biosolids. The older one at Werribee cant sell theirs because in times past they were lax in what they could take and the biosolids have too much heavy metals. So what they are go...

On page 6 of the current issue of 'Small Farms' magazine, there is a story about a farmer using 'humanure' (bio-solids) to fertilize his farm. Evidently he gets the raw product for free from the sewage works at Newcastle.

Hello Ian You have hit the nail right on the head. Farming is a business, farmers need to put bread on the table. Farmers have limited time and money to work with. For those without prior understanding, or even those who do, but have there backs to the wall, it would appear easy to spread a couple o...

Ashlee I am not a farmer myself, but have one piece of advice I wish to pass on to you. I spent a couple of years mowing lawns, and lawn mowing contractors are ALWAYS looking for somewhere to dispose of their clippings for free! If you are very close to geelong you may be able to arrange with someon...

Where Peter talks about using willows for riparian revegatation, would I be correct in assuming he was using Salix babylonica Weeping Willow?

I missed the first part of the program on Monday night(although I am just about to watche the replay this morning), but i thoroughly enjoyed what I saw. Sad to see the CSIRO's viewpoint although the trouble at the moment is that a lot of research is funded from outside sources. When I was employed b...

Duane,
If 1% of what has been spent by Penny and Kevin on the CPRS/ETS had been invested in Natural Sequence Farming, where would the movement be now? ;-)

Heaven and Earth

Hello All. I am 3/4 of the way through reading 'Heaven and Earth' by Dr. Ian Plimer, a noted Australian geologist. If ever there was a book to totally demolish the crackpot idea of 'Anthropogenic Global Warming, this is it. If Dr. Plimer and Peter can both learn valuable insights into the natural wo...
