Class Action against agencies over willow removal policy

Post by duane » Mon Jan 17, 2011 4:10 pm

Local communities in Tooma, Queanbeyan, the ACT, Tumut, Smiths Road and Narromine are considering a Class Action against Government agencies and contractors for the recent damage caused to farms and infrastructure by recent flooding carrying hundreds of thousands of tonnes of dead willows left on rivers banks.

The Federal Government's DEHWA and DAFF administers the WONS Act and supports payment via Caring for our Country to various State agencies inc Catchment Management Authorities, Local Councils and the Willows Taskforce. Contractors who did not clean up the mess they left after killing the willows and leaving the debris on the riverbanks, are also in their sights.

They are looking at a claim against all agencies responsible.
